The Importance of ‘The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home’ Continues to Hit Justin Moore

When Justin Moore captured the eighth No. 1 hit of his career with “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home” earlier this year, it could have been the end of the story for this powerful song.

But Moore is quickly finding out that this story is just beginning.

“It’s kind of crazy that it’s been about a year since we released it,” Moore tells Taste of Country during a recent interview. “The song has been such a blessing in my career, and I think it always will be. It’s such an amazing experience to get to play it and hear how it helped people in different ways.”

The song is sure to be on many people’s playlists on Veteran’s Day on Monday (Nov. 11), and will definitely be on Moore’s mind, too.

“I had one grandpa in the U.S. Navy and one in the Air Force, and it’s just so important to remember the sacrifice and the military service of these men and women,” says Moore, who is currently out with his new single “Why We Drink”.

Moore says he often talks about that sacrifice with his older children.

“I’ve certainly talked about both of my grandfathers with them,” he says. “They both are aware that their great-grandfathers served in the military, but I think as they get older, we will tell them even more.”

Moore included the service contributions of many people in the music video of “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home,” and that’s something that he feels is very important.

“It was all about shining a light on those who don’t get enough credit, from the police to the teachers to the nurses,” says Moore, who performed “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home” during the NFL’s recent Salute to Service program. “They deserve to be honored also.”
