Carly Pearce + Lee Brice Show Both Sides of a Breakup in ‘I Hope You’re Happy Now’ Video

There are two sides to every story, and Carly Pearce and Lee Brice demonstrate this in the music video for “I Hope You’re Happy Now”. Pearce co-wrote the emotional duet with Luke Combs, Jonathan Singleton and Randy Montana.

The video follows a former couple, one of whom is with someone new, and the other clearly still nursing heartbreak. It echoes the song, with Pearce in the role of the heartbreaker, and Brice playing the scorned one.

“Who knew this heart could break / This hard / Or love like ours could fall apart / Without so much as a warning / I thought that I was what you wanted,” Brice sings.

Pearce cried the first time she watched the video. “This song is so personal, and I wanted the visual to truly reflect that part of my story. I feel like this song is the closing piece to this chapter in my life, so the ending is bittersweet, but it leaves things on a positive note.”

Pearce has hinted that she broke someone’s heart before she and her now-husband, Michael Ray, got together. “If I were to run into this person today, my hope is that things would play out exactly how the video ends,” she says.

“I Hope You’re Happy Now” is the second single from Pearce’s forthcoming sophomore album, and follows her previous single, “Closer to You.” The self-titled project is due out on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14).
